Supplier's content Pre-Processing

The key points to note in the preparation of content for delivery

to ITV are;

  • The content must be in a raster intended for 16:9 aspect ratio.
  • The content must be progressive.
  • Interlace content must be motion resolved to progressive.
  • The supplied video must be full frame with no edge artefact.

Opposite are examples of a badly framed video source and a correctly framed source. The badly framed source should be cropped during the editorial process to remove the black bars around the edges before it is exported in the SMPTE D10 format for transcoding.

The content should be supplied in a progressive format, but if it is supplied in an interlace format then to achieve the best transcoding results the source should be deinterlaced with a motion resolve algorithm prior to being encoded to the desired target format.

This algorithm uses both the upper and lower video fields, looks for motion and resolves that motion into a new frame which is then encoded. This is particularly effective with fast moving images such as sport.

The motion resolve deinterlacer is a filter applied to all interlace source content as part of the encoder configuration settings, generally found in the pre processing stage, and then one of the following profiles applied.

File delivery

Please use the file naming convention below when sending files. If you do not follow this correctly, the file will be rejected.
