Creative specs: online ads

Technical specifications for advertising on ITV websites

The table below shows the different kinds of online advertising available on ITV sites:

ITV Online accepts third-party adserving of the above units from the following approved vendors: Atlas DMT, Bluestreak, DoubleClick, Eyeblaster, Mediaplex and Flashtalking

  • ITV Online allows continuous looping on MPU's, banners, skyscrapers and buttons
  • Max 18 frames per second
  • Once clicked, all adverts should open in a new window
  • For Flash ads hosted by ITV Online, please download the Flash ads document and video. This contains all the instructions you will need.
  • All creative should be sent to ITV Online at least three working days prior to the campaign start date
  • Subject to ITV Online’s New Media Terms & Conditions, changes to creative may be made during the campaign with 48 hours’ notice
  • Subject to ITV Online’s New Media Terms & Conditions, if ITV Online does not receive the campaign creative by the deadlines specified above, then ITV Online shall be entitled to renegotiate the campaign dates and delivery

Video streaming in all display formats

  • Video must not auto play
  • All video and sound content must be user-initiated by a click
  • Must have a video play/stop and sound on/off controls as standard
  • Up to 1.2MB streaming
  • Current accepted third-party video streaming vendors are Atlas DMT, Bluestreak, DoubleClick, Eyeblaster, EyeWonder, FlashTalking and Mediaplex

Please send all creative (including creative for testing) to interactivetraffic@itv.com.
The email should contain the following information:

  1. Start/end date of the campaign
  2. Advertisement name
  3. Alternate text
  4. Click-through URL
  5. GIF back for Flash/JavaScript Creative (for users who do not have Flash installed)
  6. Agency/advertiser contact details

Further notes for JavaScript/HTML banners:

  • HTML code cannot exceed 5KB
  • URLs should always be referenced in ‘a href’ tags
  • No stylesheets
  • Coding should contain ‘form’ tags with method=get
  • All clicks must be trackable via the ITV Online redirect
  • Client-side image maps will be accepted and must be provided by the client
  • JavaScript and IFrames are accepted
  • Creative Subject to Editorial Approval

ITV Online accepts overlay ads from the following approved vendors; Atlas DMT, Bluestreak, DoubleClick, Eyeblaster, Mediaplex, Flashtalking

  • Creative should be sent to ITV Online at least three working days prior to the campaign start date
  • No audio to be contained within floating ads
  • All sound must be user-initiated by click and there must be a clearly defined ‘close’ button
  • 15 seconds maximum animation
  • Frequency capped to once per user per day
  • Landing spots/‘leave behind’ reminder are possible, subject to availability and a CPM premium
  • Must be capped at 1 per 24 hours

Overlays:

  • Overlay element must be no larger than 400 x 400 pixels, with a transparent background
  • Cannot play over the ITV.com masthead and cannot pause over other advertisements on the page

Pop - Under:

  • Pop - Under element must be no larger than 800 x 600 pixels.

All Overlay Creative Subject to Editorial Approval

Additional Information
CPU CPU usage is dependent on the local machine. If we find the advert is causing high levels of CPU usage we will remove it and require the creative to be amended.
Takeover Limited to Home Page Areas of the Website
Synching Adverts Limited to Leaderboard and MPU only and if booked as a Takeover
Smart Skys We use Smart Skys that will only show if the width of the users screen resolution is above 1200 Pixels
Animation Continuous animation is allowed
Page Peels We can serve page peels that will be served as an overlay. Please contact ITVOnlineTrafficDL@itv.com for more information.
Tracking Pixel DR We will require the various Creatives at least 3 days before the campaign is due to go live. We will generate a tracking pixel and need it implemented on your confirmation page in order to complete the testing.

CiTV Pre-Roll Video Screen

  • 30 seconds max
  • .wmv or .mov file
  • 16:9 aspect ratio
  • Stereo Audio
  • No digital rights management
  • Also supply destination clickthrough URL

In-house streaming guidelines:

  • The video material (guide duration: 30") must be supplied either on videotape (Betacam SP PAL format) or as an uncompressed AVI, MPEG or MOV file. If using the latter, the file must be free from any Digital Rights Management protection which can preclude our encoding of the material into Flash. If creating a Flash file from scratch, it must be 242 x 136 pixels and 12 frames per second. Any music used must be cleared by the advertiser.
  • All video material must be in 16:9FH anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio and have stereo sound 
  • In order to comply with music licensing arrangements, ITV Online must have an undertaking in writing from the agency/client that an internet synchronisation licence is in place with the music publisher(s) of any music accompanying the video material, and that the agency/client will indemnify ITV Online in respect of any fees levied on us by MCPS or PRS in respect of its use on the website.

Click tracking

  • If you wish to track the clicks on an ad via a third party, this is also possible. Please supply us with a valid click command.
