British Soap Awards winners announced

13th May 2009

The British Soap Awards honour outstanding achievement in the country’s most popular television genre. There are 17 awards and categories are voted for either by a panel of expert judges or by the public.

After all the votes were counted, the winners of the British Soap Awards were announced at a star-studded ceremony hosted by Phillip Schofield. The evening also featured tributes to Clive Hornby (Emmerdale) and Wendy Richard (EastEnders).

The winners were:

Sexiest Male – Scott Maslen (EastEnders)
Sexiest Female – Michelle Keegan (Coronation Street)
Villain of the Year – Gray O’Brien (Coronation Street)
Best Comedy Performance – Nina Wadia (EastEnders)
Spectacular Scene – Victoria Falls Through The Ice (Emmerdale)
Best Dramatic Performance – Anita Carey (Doctors)
Best Dramatic Performance from a Young Actor or Actress – Maisie Smith (EastEnders)
Best Exit – Rob James-Collier (Coronation Street)
Lifetime Achievement Award – Barbara Windsor
Best Onscreen Partnership – Nitin Ganatra and Nina Wadia (EastEnders)
Best Storyline – Vivien’s Rape (Doctors)
Best Newcomer – Craig Gazey (Coronation Street)
Best Single Episode – A Kind Of Hush (Doctors)
Special Achievement Award – Peter Whalley (Writer, Coronation Street)
Best Actor – Robert Kazinsky (EastEnders)
Best Actress – Katherine Kelly (Coronation Street)
Best British Soap – EastEnders
