Pay As You Grow

eBay UK's scheme removes fees for any first time sellers on the platform, until they have made over 100 sales in a single month, with reduced fees until they've made 300 sales each month. This unique offer is designed to give first time sellers and start-ups a helping hand in making the move to online sales by setting up their own online business at little to no cost. Inspired by the new UK Government policy 'Pay As You Grow' loan payments for small businesses, eBay wanted to create new economic opportunuties during the COVID-19 crisis following a wide range of seller support policies brought in since the start of the pandemic. eBay UK announced a series of measures to support small businesses during the COVID-19 crisis, both for existing eBay businesses and those who had been forced to shutter because of lockdown:

  • In March, eBay announced a 30-day payment holiday for existing sellers and that it would be waiving fees to list or sell for new businesses joining the platform for the first time.

  • In the first month alone, tens of thousands of new businesses joined the platform and the number of daily registrations on the site doubled.

  • Alongside the cashflow boost for sellers, eBay also committed to ‘maintaining seller standards’ for three months – ensuring the reputation, standing and profile of individual sellers cannot be damaged by events out of their control.

The scheme runs until 31 December 2020.

eBay for Business Awards

The eBay for Business Awards is an annual event designed to recognise and celebrate the most inspiring sellers among eBay UK’s community of 300,000 small and medium-sized businesses.

Following an exceptionally challenging year for many small businesses and entrepreneurs, eBay received over 1,200 entries for this year’s awards across all categories, reviewed by an expert panel of judges made up of eBay leadership, industry experts, and previous award winners.

This year’s winners across 11 categories range from kitchen table start-ups and student ‘side hustles’, to established family businesses and those complementing offline stores with online avenues.
