The business

Henry started selling on eBay during the UK lockdown in March, then making UK Components a registered business in May. UK Components is a leading supplier of parts for makers, selling a range of products from 3D printer parts to pneumatic supplies the range grows every week. Their mission is to offer the best possible price to it's customers without impeding their high standard of service.

How it started

Henry Cawley started selling on eBay at just 13, reselling antiques from car boot sales. Now 23, he started his business UK Components on eBay in lockdown, while his mechanical engineering degree at Bath University was on hold.

Since beginning his business selling parts for 3D printers, sales have increased month-on-month, and show no signs of slowing down. Judging by recent sales growth, the young entrepreneur predicts a yearly turnover of £40,000. Henry is continuing to grow the business in his final year at university, which means he no longer has to work part-time night shifts at the local Waitrose.

What the seller says...

“Since the first lockdown, I can’t believe that my sales have continued to grow. For any other businesses looking to set up online, I would say the risk is minimal. Selling on eBay takes a very small amount of time to get going and immediately start reaching customers across the UK and beyond. The key piece of advice I would give to those looking to sell online is to make the eBay listing as clear as possible, use lots of images, and provide an accurate description.”
