We love making Love Island for ITV2. The show's success is testament to the magnificent production team that decamp to Mallorca every year to deliver the award-winning show with its trademark warmth, wit and wide-ranging appeal. And now 2020 is going to have even more love than before. Angela Jain, Managing Director ITV Studios Entertainment

Viewers will no longer have to wait a year for their next instalment of TV’s most talked about summer series, as ITV today confirmed that during 2020 there will be two series of Love Island on ITV2.

Love Island is the most watched programme of the year for adults aged 16-34, across any channel.

The show has hit new heights in its fifth series this summer, breaking the 6 million viewers mark for the first time, in terms of four-screen consolidated viewing.

There have been over 2 billion impressions on Twitter so far this series, and the Love Island account has over 3 million instagram followers.

In early 2020 Love Island will be back in an all new location, with the first series of the year bringing the sunshine to viewers at home from a brand new villa in South Africa.

The summer series will then return to Europe for a summer of love closer to home

Love Island UK is produced by ITV Studios Entertainment and Motion Content Group, and has also proved a great success in terms of how commercial partners work with editorial to forge partnerships that are a great fit for the show, and with this new series comes lots of new commercial opportunities.

The show is based on a format owned by ITV Studios and Motion Content Group Ltd and is distributed internationally by ITV Studios Global Entertainment.

Love Island has now been commissioned in a total of 13 countries, including the UK. Last year the format launched in Australia and across the Nordics, all produced by ITV Studios' labels in those countries. In 2019 the show has launched on CBS in the U.S., produced by ITV Entertainment, and in Belgium and Holland, while it will also debuted in Poland and Hungary. It will return for a third series in Germany and a second in Australia, Finland and Sweden.

The format is one of a number of international format hits on ITV Studios' growing slate, including among others I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! - which has run for 13 seasons in Germany, has been recommissioned for a sixth series in Australia and is currently airing in France - Come Dine With Me, now with 14,000 episodes globally and The Voice, created by Talpa Media, now shown on every continent in the world and a version of which currently airs in more than 180 territories.

NB* Four screen consolidated viewing represents the total consolidated audience across TV, PC, Mobile and Tablet.

Off the back of a record-breaking year, we're delighted to be bringing an extra series of our biggest and sunniest show to the 2020 schedule. Love Island has proven yet again to be the perfect format that engages younger audiences. In response to this viewer appetite, a new batch of young singletons will deliver some highly anticipated post-Christmas romance and drama from our new and luxurious location.
