ITV and AwesomenessTV Announce UK Partnership
ITV and AwesomenessTV today announce a partnership, which will see ITV2 and the ITV Hub acquiring exclusive UK premiere rights to the global youth brand's long-form premium series. Additionally, the two companies will co-produce new youth-focused original series for the UK and international markets.
As part of the deal, ITV will create a new extended weekend programme for ITV2 beginning early 2017 - a show hosted by young talent and featuring the acquired scripted and unscripted AwesomenessTV series.
For the first year of the deal, ITV has acquired 75 hours of AwesomenessTV shows for both the ITV2 programme and for ITV Hub. This will increase to 100 hours in 2018. The ITV Hub will have the exclusive online UK premiere of a number of AwesomenessTV shows - the first time ITV's On Demand service will have exclusive original series.
The partnership will also see AwesomenessTV and ITV Studios joining forces to co-produce scripted and unscripted programmes for ITV2. ITV Global Entertainment will license these newly co-produced shows in international markets.
AwesomenessTV was founded by Brian Robbins, producer of Smallville and One Tree Hill, and has become a leading global youth brand creating new drama, comedy and entertainment series for platforms including Verizon, Netflix and Hulu, working with some of YouTube's most successful content creators. Premium series include Guidance and Tagged for Verizon's go90 platform, and the upcoming Freakish for Hulu.
