ITV The Home For Big Live Football

A review of football programming in BARB has unearthed some fascinating facts.  Analysis of the football genre throughout the 2012/13 season suggests that compared to BBC1, EuroSport, Channel 5, and Sky Sports (1-4) ITV is king.

The top 15 football related programmes (all live games) are broadcast on ITV. In fact the broadcaster dominates the top 20 with 17 of the top football related programmes (the other 3 being Match of The Day on BBC1).

The top 10 listed below are based on average 000's for individuals:

Champions League - Man Utd v Real Madrid - 9,387

England Friendlies - England v Brazil – 6,852

England International - Montenegro v England – 6,818

England International - England v Ukraine - 5,746

England International - England v San Marino - 5,571

FA CUP - Man Utd v Chelsea - 5,357

Champions League - Arsenal v Bayern Munich - 5,207

England International - San Marino v England – 5,183

England Friendlies - Sweden v England - 5,122

FA CUP Replay - Man Utd v West Ham - 5,107

To add some further context to the above the biggest Premier league game of the season (arguably Man Utd v Liverpool) received an average individual 000's of 2,615 and is the 68th (69th with Montenegro) biggest football related programme of the season so far.

All of the above shows that for BIG football audiences ITV truly is the home of live football.
