ITV wins big at the North West Royal Television Society Awards 2012

ITV swept up a huge amount of awards across Entertainment, Drama, Factual and News at the North West Royal Television Society Awards 2012.

The hugely successful Scott & Bailey (pictured) won Best Script Writer, Coronation Street scooped Best Continuing Drama, and 56Up was honoured with two awards for Best Factual Series and the Judges Award for Outstanding Achievement.

Alex Gardiner, Creative Director Factual North & Shiver, said: "ITV has always been passionate about documentaries - and with the 7Up series, ITV has shown a commitment over time that no other broadcaster around the world can boast of.

"It was great that the RTS recognised this with their Special Judges Award for 56Up - and even better that Jackie from the programme and so many of the team that have made the series over the years were able to be there with us."

One of the most impressive achievements of the night, was the four awards scooped by the Granada Reports team, including Best Regional News Programme.

Lucy West, Head of News, said: To receive four awards is a fantastic endorsement of the strength of journalism produced by the Granada news team. It was the fourth year in a row we have picked up Best Regional News Programme.

"Our reporters and journalists showed extreme courage in covering the riots last summer and ensured that by using social media we were getting out accurate information fast.

"Claire Ashforth won Best Regional story for her story with Ann Williams who has continued to fight to discover the truth about how her son Kevin died at Hillsborough. It was Claire's dedication and commitment which produced an exclusive report reuniting Ann with the WPC who looked after her son Kevin at Hillsborough - her report accurately predicted the findings of the Hillsborough Independent Panel several months ahead of their report being published. "
