Proud to Present: Compare the Market Say Goodbye to Baby Oleg





























Compare the Market have sadly said goodbye to everyone’s favourite meerkat, Baby Oleg, this Christmas; launching the next chapter in this popular campaign.  Having been a sponsor of Coronation Street since 2011, the advert complemented the soap opera partnership perfectly, as the touching exit was a tear-jerker for all the family.

With a 10 second teaser to set emotions high, the advert was aired on Christmas Day during Coronation Street and Downton Abbey as part of ITV’s Proud to Present initiative, which included a bespoke introduction with the ITV logo and voiceover.

Coronation Street executive producer Kieran Roberts commented on the advert: "Christmas is often a time when big story-lines climax and characters can face a dramatic exit. On Coronation Street we've said farewell to iconic characters such as Hilda Ogden and Karen McDonald in our Christmas episodes and…the departure of an unlikely character this Christmas - one of the meerkats - is also likely to grip the nation.  With such affection for the meerkats, this story has all the makings of a classic Christmas Day exit.”

With great reach on social media, the advert itself inspired hundreds of Tweets as viewers were reluctant to say goodbye to the baby meerkat. Compare The Market have even launched their own ‘Memorymabob’ online where all previous clips of the meerkat can be re-watched and fans can even send a virtual care package to Oleg.
