Lücy's thoughts:


"I believe this ad deserves to be recognised as one of ITV’s Living Room Legends because it’s such a simple idea executed beautifully. It’s no surprise this ad was created by ex-Watford students; this is the exact type of work Tony Cullingham pushed and inspired his students to strive for: simplicity, rooted in human truth. It's certainly what I strive for. Even to me, someone who doesn’t drive but recognises ‘bad drivers are clowns’. Clown proof, just two words, no waffle, and the execution is just as disciplined, no heavy use of VFX, and any that is used only serves to enhance its realism. There’s no need to exaggerate when the line already does most of the heavy lifting. Just real stunts and clowns, even the soundtrack is purposeful - a stripped-back cover of ‘Send in the Clowns’ aligns with the idea perfectly.


Even the way they apply humour, with ‘clown’ in the line, you could argue they’d have license to really push the comedy aspect, but they don’t; again, it’s disciplined, and it needed to be to prove Audi’s tech is good. For me, this is certainly a guide to great advertising because they turn what is essentially a demonstration ad into an enjoyable cinematic experience."
