Peter's thoughts:

"This TV ad has a special place in my heart. My Dad, who has since passed away, used to be heard singing it around our house when I was growing up. Even now it reminds me of him.

And it is not just me who has the famous jingle stuck in my head. Under the video on YouTube one comment says, “my Grandad has been singing this for years.” The ad is rooted in truth. Cornetto was invented in Naples in 1959 when a business solved the problem of soggy frozen cones by adding a chocolate barrier inside the wafer.

Yet the ad ends with a playful twist, stating on screen that Cornetto is “made outside Italy”😀.

So, what can we learn from it?

Jingles can lodge your brand in the heads of millions for decades. In 2006, 23 years after the campaign was first launched, McCann Erickson found in a survey that 70% of UK adults recognised and still remembered the ad.

Making it the UK's catchiest ad jingle of all time.

Seventy percent recognition. More than two decades later. Proof that creativity can echo across generations. And for me it's more than advertising effectiveness. Every time I hear “Just one Cornetto,” I hear my Dad’s voice."
