Tamara's thoughts:

"Playing on two national treasures, David Attenborough and comedy play-fighting, John West’s ‘Bear' was one of the first TV ads that can claim it went ‘viral’. Many of today’s brands could learn from the bravery of a tinned fish company to not show any product in an ad and instead rely on the way the ad makes you feel. And with over 300m views on YouTube it made people feel a lot about tinned salmon, with sales apparently jumping up 90% in the weeks after the ad aired. I love it for its nonsense, I love it for the fact that Jim Henson made the bear costumes, I love it for its lo-fi production technique, I love it for making tinned fish funny and I love it for the fact it could still air today and yet is 25years old. It’s an iconic example of how being distinct in your category pays dividends and how a great idea, produced with simplicity, can stand the test of time."
