Is catch-up TV failing to take off on mobile?

I just came across a new survey conducted by YouGov on behalf of FirstSource Solutions, which suggests that 'Catch up TV has failed to take off on smartphones and tablets'.  I'm not sure I agree! And here is why...

While 'mobile' may not be the biggest platform out there, it has grown massively since 2010.  Mobile VOD ad spend (pre and post roll) grew by +147% in 2011 (vs 2010), and as at H1 2012 was already reporting above that still with a massive £1.7m.  At that date, Mobile then represented 1% of the total video ad spend market, which is a huge increase from it's early days in 2010 - and I suspect has continued to grow in share through the back half of last year.

Also, mobile platforms have grown at a phenomenal rate here at ITV - taking over 20% share of all ITV Player views during Jan-Sep 2012.

Mobile is definitely a space to watch...
