ITV Channel of the Year
ITV has more additions to the trophy cabinet after last night's annual Freesat Awards, scooping up, among other accolades, “Channel of the Year”.
The Awards celebrate the quality and variety of programming on British free-to-air television, and 2013 saw 52 nominees competing across ten categories. All nominations were shortlisted by an expert panel of broadcasters and television and radio commentators.
For ITV’s Channel of the Year award Freesat said, “ITV Stopped worrying about whether or not the programming fits the audience, instead they’re focusing on producing the best possible content.”
The gripping drama Broadchurch, starring Olivia Colman and David Tennant also came away a winner, picking up the award for "Best of British TV Series". Freesat named the programme “the most talked about on British TV”.
And in the two awards voted for by the British public, Ant and Dec were named “Personality of the Year” and Coronation Street's popularity was recognised with the award for “Best British Soap”.
